I use the sport dog for stubborn dogs model. Its waterproof and can be submerged up to 25ft in water. It has a range of 1/4 mile and you can add another dog collar to it. Hunter is currently on a medium level 2 for correction. I bump it to level 5 if he really is being an ass that day. Then back down to the 2

Sounds like a great tool Cherie! How long did it take Hunter to get the basics down? Any tips or suggestions on how you successful introduced the electronic collar? That range and submersion depth sound really great for off leash playing and enjoying the beach or lake. Where did you get it? Sounds like it is a much better model than what is offered at Petco or Petsmart.

It actually took Hunter 1-2 days to learn what the collar meant. The way I trained him on it might not be the best way but it worked for me and him. I found out what is right level was and then trained him on a 5 because the others higher levels made him yelp. He's good with all his commands accept recall off leash. So that the only thing I trained him for to begin with. I had him sit, stay then walked away and said come command with and a tone signal. I did that twice if he didnt respond I gave him a zap and then the come command again. He caught on that day but I didnt do any off leash with until the 3rd day. When I pressed the tone button he now stops in his tracks and runs right back to me. I mostly use the ecollar for recall but also if hes not listening to the other commands as well. It is really great because I hike with him and go to the dog beach. I actually got his from Petco but I do agree with you that the petco/petsmart store brand e collars are crap and a waste of money.
